The Mac operating system was introduced to the publicity long time ago, but it is still considered to be better, faster and easier to cope with than the Windows’ one. However, if you don’t take care of your hard drive, even Mac operating system may start working worse. Before you start the cleaning procedure, make sure that you’ve done all the preparation steps and you actually know how you can clean up data on your hard drive.
Before you start, back up all the info
You never know what can go wrong while cleaning your mac, so you’d better back up all your data on a separate hard drive. Or, you can use CDs cloud storages, portable flash drives, basically – anything. It doesn’t mean that while the cleaning up process some data may be destroyed, still backing up is a thing that you should do on a regular basis.
Take out the trash, literally
When you delete files, they are moved to the special place, a “trash bin”. It means that you don’t actually free space while deleting files this way. If you really want to get rid of unnecessary files, go to your trash bin and empty it, so all the data there would actually disappear and give you free gigabytes.
Archive unused files
There are some files you don’t want to delete, but they are taking up too much space. If you are looking for the way to deal with it, the easiest thing you can do is to place them into one archive. Choose the files, put them into one folder, then click the right button and select “Archive” option. This method allows you to keep all the data in one place and therefore, the file size will become smaller, letting you have more free space on your hard drive.
Use an app
If you are looking for a simpler way on how to clean hard drive on Mac, you can download a special app and let it do its work. There are a lot of them, for instance, MacFly Pro. All you have to do is simply download and install it, the rest is not your problem anymore.
Delete unused applications
Every day new apps are launched and we gladly download them, but what do you do with the old ones you don’t need anymore? Exactly, you simply forget about them, though they still take up some space. To see how many apps you have on your computer, select “Applications” in your dock and drag those things you don’t need into the trash.
